Recall Roundup: FCA Recalls Nearly 1.5 Million Ram Pickups for Brake Transmission Shift Interlock Malfunction

During the past week, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US (FCA US) recalled 1,482,874 Ram pickup trucks from the 2009-2017 model years that are equipped with column shifters, due to issues with the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) pin. FCA has also recalled 16,900 Dodge Dakota pickup trucks from the 2005 model year. Volkswagen Group of America (VW), Maserati North America (Maserati), and Toyota Motor (Toyota) also issued recalls of light passenger vehicles.


December U.S. Auto Sales Dim Despite Big Rebates, SUV Demand

Consumer demand for light trucks—especially SUVs—continued to climb in December despite sluggish new-vehicle sales, which may dip 2% from a year ago when adjusted for one less selling day. December represents the eighth of 12 months in 2017 where the sales pace has faltered vs. the year-ago monthly selling rates, according to an update from J.D. Power and auto forecasting partner LMC Automotive.


Recall Roundup: Air Bag Problem Prompts Massive Ford Ranger Recalls

During the past week, Ford Motor Company (Ford) recalled 361,523 Ford Ranger light pickup trucks from the 2004-2006 model years to implement a final repair of the passenger’s frontal air bag inflator, superseding a previous recall of the same vehicles. Ford also issued a smaller recall of 2018 Ford Escape vehicles. Aston Martin The Americas (Aston Martin), Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai), Kia Motors America (Kia), Mazda North American Operations (Mazda), and the Volkswagen Group of America (VW) also recalled light passenger vehicles, dating back to the 2004 model year.


J.D. Power and LMC Automotive Forecast December 2017

DETROIT: 22 Dec. 2017 — For the eighth time this year, the new vehicle retail sales pace in December is expected to fall from year-ago levels, according to a forecast developed jointly by J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.   The seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) for retail sales is expected to be 14.6 million units, down 350,000 from a year ago.  Retail sales are projected to reach 1,305,800 units, a -2.6% decrease on a selling day adjusted basis compared to December 2016.


New for 2018: Nissan Cars

Nissan’s big news as far as its cars go is the debut of a redesigned Leaf electric car. An improvement over the old Leaf in terms of technology, the 2018 Leaf doesn’t match the Chevrolet Bolt in terms of driving range. Other Nissan cars receive minor updates for the 2018 model year.


Recall Roundup: More Than One Half Million Hyundai Elantras, Kia Fortes Recalled for Braking System Issue

A defective brake pedal stopper pad is responsible for the recall of 390,467 Hyundai Elantra and 134,366 Kia Forte vehicles. Smaller recalls, for other issues, have been announced by Ford, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
